Kolonics Winery is cultivating 9 has. Our family business, which goes back several generations, is located on the south-eastern side of Somló. Our winery are total of 9 hectares in which it is planted with Olaszrizling, Juhfark and Hárslevelű grapes.

Wines made by traditional method, traditional process: low yield, fermentation and aging in oak and acacia barrels. The winery has a capacity of 30,000 litres of wooden barrels. We are aging the wines in the cellar for 1-2-3 years, before bottling. Due to our winemaking approach and the significant yield limitation, our wines reflect the typical Somlai terroir , are rich in minerals.

The Beginning

The winery is working with cellars which have been used as wine cellars since the 17th and 18th centuries. Our first cellar was a graduation gift from my parents. My great-grandfather bought it in the late 1800s. He was working as a postmaster at the time.

The First Vintage

Riseling is our flagship wine today. My first wines were born in 2000.

2005

II. John Paul

We harvested the first Juhfark and Hárslevelű vines this year. I named the vineyard John Paul II.,  because I planted the vine in  on the same hour the pope was buried.
